Mumbai: Panvel received 121.67 mm of rain from Saturday midnight to 11 am on Sunday and the water in low lying areas did not recede even four hours after the rain stopped. Even after the rain stopped, the situation remains the same with water logging up to two feet in various areas.
In Kalamboli, the houses in the lower areas from Sector 2 to 10 have been flooded the most. People in A type and B type buildings including the sitting area of KL 1, LIG were troubled as the water did not recede even four hours after the rain stopped. Also, when the tide came in the sea again from 1.15 pm, two feet of water was seen even when the disaster management motor pump of the municipality was started.
In Panvel Municipality area, 70 motor pumps were installed by the municipality to remove the water accumulated in the dam away from the population. The day commissioner of the municipality informed that 27 of these have been installed only in Kalamboli. Even on Sunday, the municipality had deployed 350 workers for removing water from Kalamboli and other cleaning work.
Locals accused the municipal corporation administration of not getting the drains cleaned on time. 60 residents near the Kasadi river bank were shifted to a safer place in Budh Vihar, while 160 citizens of Patel Mohalla whose families were at risk of flooding were shifted to an Urdu school. The municipality provided medical staff for medical checkup besides providing food facilities for the migrants.
