Many people have lost their lives in Japan trying to improve their health. Five people have died in Japan after drinking health tonic. However, healthy products have been recalled following this incident. But as of Friday this week, five people have died and more than 100 have been hospitalized. Osaka-based Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co. reportedly became aware of the problems with the products in early January. But the first public announcement in this regard was made on March 22.

Company president apologized

Company president Akihiro Kobayashi apologized for the death and illness on Friday. The company has withdrawn several other products from the market containing harmful ingredients. The Ministry of Health of Japan has published a list of these products on its official website. These products also include those in which benicozi has been used for 'food colouring'. The ministry has warned that the death toll may increase. Kobayashi Pharmaceutical has been selling Benikoji products for years but the problems started with products made in 2023. The company said it produced 18.5 tonnes of Benikoji last year.
