Kanpur, 03 June (HS). Five accused including SP MLA Irfan Solanki lodged in Maharajganj jail have been convicted in the arson case.
The MPMLA court pronounced the verdict on Monday late evening after 9 o'clock and as soon as the verdict came, the MLA's mother became inconsolable in the court premises itself. The court will now pronounce the sentence on June 7, if the sentence is more than two years, then Irfan will also lose his MLA status.
SP MLA from Aryanagar seat Irfan Solanki resides in Jajmau. On November 7, 2022, Nazir Fatima, who lives in the neighbourhood, had accused the MLA that when she had gone to a wedding ceremony with her family, the MLA Irfan, along with brother Rizwan and others, set fire to the house, due to which the entire household was burnt to ashes. It was also alleged that the MLA wants to scare her by arson to leave the plot and run away, because the MLA has his eyes on the plot and has been wanting to capture it for many years. On November 8, the victim lodged a report against the MLA and his brother and others in Jajmau police station. The police investigated and filed three charge sheets in the court. In the first charge sheet, MLA Irfan Solanki, brother Rizwan Solanki, Shaukat, Sharif and Israel Attawala were made accused. After this, seven people were made accused in the second and third.
The case went to the MPMLA court and after all kinds of arguments, the court was giving dates after dates for about two months and finally on Monday the court decided to pronounce the verdict. Due to the crowd throughout the day, the court fixed the time to pronounce the verdict after nine in the evening. After nine o'clock the accused were produced in the court and the MLA appeared through video conferencing. The court convicted five accused including MLA Irfan, who was included in the first charge sheet of the police, in the arson case. On hearing the news of the conviction in the court, the MLA's mother became sad in the court premises. The family members somehow consoled her and all the family members looked disappointed. The court has given the next date for sentencing as June 7.
Government advocate Dilip Awasthi said that the court has convicted five accused including the MLA. Further hearing will be held on the other seven accused. If the sentence is more than two years on June 7, then Irfan Solanki will also lose his MLA status.
