Guwahati, 20 February (HS). The first good news came for the Assam camp at the fourth Khelo India University Games in Guwahati on Tuesday. Assam's talented female swimmer Uttara Gogoi won the bronze medal.
Uttara of Assam won the bronze medal in women's 50m waterfly while representing Chandigarh University in the competition held at Dr. Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex, Sarusjai Sports Project. Uttara finished third with a timing of 29.81 seconds.
This is the fifth medal of Uttara's career in Khelo India University Games. Earlier, Uttara had won four medals in the third Khelo India University Games held in Uttar Pradesh last year.
Last year, Uttara, representing Delhi University, had won silver medals in the women's 50, 100 and 200 meter waterfly and a bronze medal in the 200 meter freestyle relay. Last year, Uttara had won a silver medal in women's 50 meter waterfly with a timing of 29.62 seconds while she won another silver medal in 100 meter waterfly with a timing of 1 minute 06.06 seconds.
Uttara won the 200m waterfly in 2 minutes 31.82 seconds. Additionally, the Delhi University women's relay team, representing Uttara, won the bronze medal in freestyle. The time was nine minutes 46.78 seconds.
Uttara said that although I have won the medal but I am not happy with my performance. I tried to improve my timing but it didn't work. Tomorrow I will compete in 100 and 200 meter waterfly. I will try to perform better this time.
