First Indian to win Best Actress Award, Anasuya Sengupta creates history | Live Updates, Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

Cannes Film Festival 2024: Celebrities from the entertainment world arrived to participate in the Cannes Film Festival. This event which started on 14 May is today i.e. 25 May, its last day. In this 77th Cannes Film Festival, Kolkata's Anasuya Sengupta has created history.

History made at the Cannes Film Festival

Kolkata-based Anasuya has become the first Indian to win the Best Actress award at the prestigious film festival. She received the award for the film 'Shameless' directed by Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Bozanov.

Selected as Best Actress in the Un Certain Regard segment

Anasuya Sengupta was selected as the best actress in the Un Certain Regard segment of the Cannes Film Festival. After winning the award, Anasuya said, “You don't have to be gay to fight for equality for all. We just need to be very decent human beings.” Along with this, she also thanked her fans on Instagram for the win.

Who is Anasuya Sengupta?

Anasuya Sengupta, originally from Kolkata, has made a name for herself as a production designer in Mumbai. She currently lives in Goa. She designed the set of the show 'Masaba Masaba' on OTT. Anasuya has studied from Jadavpur University.

'Sunflower Was First to Know' and 'Bunnyhood' also won awards.

Apart from Anasuya, two Indian films 'Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know' and 'Bunnyhood' also won the first and third place in the 'La Cinéf Selection' at this year's Cannes Festival. 'Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know' is a Kannada short film directed by Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) student Chidanand Naik. While 'Bunnyhood' is directed by Meerut-based and UK-educated Manasi Maheshwari.
