Firing and recovery of explosives on Christmas in Manipur, tense situation

Peace could not return to the northeastern state of Manipur even on Christmas day. Heavy firing was reported in the border villages of Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts adjacent to the state capital Imphal. Security forces said that the firing took place in two villages located on the inter-district border.

However, exact information as to how many people have been injured in this incident has not been received yet. There is huge tension in the area after the incident. A large number of security forces have been deployed in the affected villages to control the situation.

Explosives recovered in Churachandpur

Meanwhile, security forces recovered 3.6 kg of explosives from under a bridge in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

• The explosives were seized by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in a joint operation in Leesang village.
• Spear Corps gave information on social media platform ‘X’:
  

  “Based on intelligence, explosives, detonators, cordtex and other devices were recovered from under a bridge on the Imphal-Churachandpur road.”

• The bomb disposal squad was immediately deployed and the explosives were defused.

Shooting and recovery of weapons

Weapons seized in Moljol village

On Tuesday, security forces seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition during a search operation in Moljol village of Churachandpur district.

• The weapons recovered included:
  • An M-16 rifle and magazine.
  • Four SBBL country guns.
  • A revolver.
  • A total of seven weapons including cartridges.
