FIR will be registered for giving money to beggars

If you give money to beggars in Indore, be careful from January 1, 2025. A new law is going to be implemented in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, under which strict action will be taken against beggars giving alms. This step is part of the pilot project of the Central Government, under which there is a plan to make Indore beggar-free.

Campaign objective and administration preparation

The district administration has already banned begging in Indore. This campaign is being run in 10 cities of the country, which include Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna and Ahmedabad. The objective of the administration is to provide shelter to beggars and provide them employment opportunities.

According to District Magistrate Ashish Singh, a campaign to make beggars aware will continue till December 2024. He said, “We appeal to the public not to give money to beggars. This will enable them to participate in the effort to become self-reliant.”

Provision of shelter and employment for beggars

Under the campaign, beggars are being arrested in Indore. The caught beggars are being sent to shelters. Here they will get training to live and work for six months. Social Welfare Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha said that a local organization is cooperating in this initiative of the government. This organization will help in providing shelter and employment to beggars.

Reasons behind ban on begging

Indore administration said that many such cases have come to light in the city, where beggars were collecting large amounts of money. In some cases, up to Rs 29,000 were recovered from beggars. Many beggars used to lend money and collect interest.

Apart from this, some gangs are making child begging a business. The administration is taking strict steps to arrest such gangs.

Indore’s cleanliness and beggar-free campaign

Indore is already recognized as the cleanest city in India. Now the city administration is committed to making it beggar-free. From January 1, 2025, FIR will be registered against those who give alms to beggars. This campaign will be successful only when citizens cooperate with the administration.
