FIR lodged against KT Rama Rao over alleged irregularities in Hyderabad Formula-E race

The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed an FIR against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and MLA KT Rama Rao (KTR) in connection with alleged irregularities in the organization of the Formula-E race in Hyderabad. KT Rama Rao is the son of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

Case registered after Governor’s permission

  • Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma had given permission to register an FIR against KT Rama Rao in this case.
  • The state government had written a letter to the Governor in November seeking permission to take action against Rama Rao.
  • A case has been registered against Rama Rao and two other officials under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Dispute of Rs 55 crore in Formula-E race

  • Earlier this year, the government had alleged irregularities in the agreement related to organizing the Formula-E race.
  • It is alleged that payment of Rs 55 crore was made without the approval of the competent authority.
  • Clarification was also sought from a senior bureaucrat in this matter.

KT Rama Rao, who was the Municipal Administration Minister at that time, played a key role in hosting this race in Hyderabad.
