Helsinki, July 9 (HS). 57 athletes from Finland will participate in the upcoming 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. The Finnish Olympic Committee made the announcement on Monday. Finnish delegation leader Leena Paavolainen said in a press release, “We have an excellent and versatile team of athletes representing Finland at the Paris Olympics.”
Finland sent a total of 45 athletes to Tokyo 2020, while for Paris 2024 that number has increased to 57, and they will compete in 14 events. Paavolainen said Finland's goal is to win at least two medals in Paris. Among the list of athletes, 13-year-old skateboarder Heli Silvio stands out. She started skateboarding at the age of 9 and finished seventh at the 2024 Olympic Qualifier Series skateboarding competition in Budapest, earning her a place at the Paris Olympics.
Another athlete who has attracted a lot of attention is 25-year-old high jumper Eila Junnila, who won a bronze medal at the 2019 European Athletics Under-23 Championships with a jump of 1.92m. Two years later, she broke the Finnish national record with a jump of 1.96m at the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships and qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. At the 2024 European Athletics Championships, Junnila finished fifth with a jump of 1.94m.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
