Friendship Day gained widespread recognition in the 1960-1970s, with countries like Argentina, Brazil and India adopting the tradition. In 1997, the United Nations strengthened its global recognition by declaring July 30 as International Friendship Day. After this, in the year 2011, the first Sunday of August was announced to be celebrated as Friendship Day.
