Meerut, August 17 (HS). There was a fight and stone pelting in Khair Nagar during Avantibai Lodhi's procession late on Friday night in Meerut. After the Muslim community pelted stones, people involved in the procession also threw stones. The police reached the spot after getting information and handled the matter. During this, BJP leaders demanded action against the accused from SP City.

On the birth anniversary of Veerangana Avantibai Lodhi, Lodhi Yuva Sangathan took out a huge procession on Friday. The procession started from Durjan Singh Lodhi temple in Shivshakti Nagar on Delhi Road late in the evening. After this, the procession reached Khairnagar market in Delhi Gate police station area late at night via Indiranagar, Brahmapuri, Lodhon Ka Pul, Ishwarpuri, Kabadi Bazaar, Valley Bazaar. When the last palanquin of the procession was coming out, suddenly its generator broke down. It is alleged that when the youth of Lodhi community were fixing the generator, the Muslims took out the key of the generator. When they protested, the Muslims beat them up and tore their clothes. After this, they pelted stones. In response, the people involved in the procession also pelted stones. While the Muslim side alleges that a youth was injured when a speaker of the music system of the procession fell, after which there was a ruckus.

As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and pacified the people by lathi charge. SP City Ayush Vikram Singh himself reached the spot and got the procession completed under tight security. After this, BJP leader Kamal Dutt Sharma reached the spot. He said that this procession is being taken out since 2006. Permission for the procession was taken, even after that police protection was not given. Action should be taken against the accused and NSA should be imposed. SSP Dr. Vipin Tada has said that an investigation will be conducted in this case. Police and PAC remained deployed in Khair Nagar market throughout the night.
