In Maharashtra’s Nanded district, a poor farmer and his 16-year-old son committed suicide due to financial constraints. This painful incident came to light in Minaki village of Biloli tehsil, where father and son committed suicide by hanging themselves with the same rope.
Tragedy arising from demand for smartphones
The deceased teenager, Omkar, was a class 10 student and had returned home from his hostel on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. He had asked for a smartphone for his studies.
- Father’s inability:
Omkar’s father, a small farmer, was drowned in farm and vehicle loans. He expressed his inability to buy a smartphone. - Last conversation:
On Wednesday evening, Omkar again demanded a call from his father, but after his father’s refusal, he left the house disappointed.
Dead bodies of father and son found on the farm
When Omkar did not return home, the family tried to find him.
- On Thursday morning, the father found his son’s body hanging from a tree in the field.
- The father, who was shocked to see his son’s condition, also committed suicide by hanging himself with the same rope.
- The family said that the father could not bear the death of his son and took this step in deep grief.
Police action and statement
On receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot.
- The bodies were sent to the civil hospital for postmortem.
- Superintendent of Police Avinash Kumar:
“We have registered a case of accidental death based on the statement of the boy’s mother. “The circumstances that led to this tragedy are being confirmed.” - Sub-Inspector Dilip Munde:
“The boy’s mother told that the son was constantly demanding a smartphone. Due to poor financial condition of his father, he could not fulfill this demand.”
