Fatehabad, 21 August (HS). Many passengers were injured when a roadways bus overturned in Jamalpur Shekha village of Tohana subdivision of the district. The injured were admitted to the hospital through ambulance. After this incident, the villagers have demanded action against the contractor, saying that the reason for the accident was irregularities in road construction.
According to information, a Haryana Roadways bus was going from Fatehabad to Chandigarh via Tohana on Wednesday morning. As soon as the bus reached Jamalpur Shekha village, the tires of the bus got stuck due to the soil being loose on the roadside and the bus overturned in the field on the roadside. According to eyewitnesses, there were many passengers in the bus at that time. As soon as the bus overturned, people gathered there and pulled out the passengers. 15-20 passengers have suffered minor injuries in this accident, who have been admitted to the hospital. On receiving information about the incident, the police reached the spot.
The villagers present on the spot said that the width of this road is 27 and a half feet, but due to the collusion between the contractor and the officials of the concerned department, the road is currently 12 feet wide. Due to the construction of the railway overbridge in Jamalpur, most of the vehicles use this road and the traffic on this road has also increased. The villagers said that due to the narrow width of the road and the soil on the roadside being raw, the bus speed has increased.
The road caved in and the bus overturned in a field on the side of the road. A truck had also overturned here a day earlier. The villagers have blamed the contractor and the officials of the concerned department for the accident and have demanded action against them.
