farmers protest Farmers in Punjab have blocked roads and protested on railway tracks at several places in the state due to the delay in procurement of paddy in the ongoing Kharif marketing season. The Joint Kiss Front has appealed for a statewide road blockade from 12 noon to 3 pm.
At the same time, Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) has also appealed for a three-hour rail roko movement. Farmers blocked roads at many places including the National Highway and drivers had to face a lot of problems. However, the police made arrangements to divert the traffic through an alternative route. Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said that despite the assurance of easy procurement of paddy by the state government, farmers are facing problems in the market. Farmers raised slogans against the central government as well as the state government.
