Mirzapur, 22 October (Hindustan Reporter). Dr. Jaypee Rai, scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, told the farmers about prevention and control measures. He said that farmers planting paddy crop are receiving complaints of outbreak of leaf blight disease in the crop. The disease is caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia. This can reduce production by half under favorable climatic conditions.
Agricultural scientist said that blight disease is soil borne. Initial symptoms usually develop as circular, oval or ellipsoidal, water-soaked greenish-brown spots on the leaf sheaths at or just above the field water line on the plant. As the disease progresses, the spots become larger in size. Many small spots coalesce into larger lesions with gray to white centers surrounded by brown to dark brown irregular edges or outlines.
He told that biological control of the disease can also be done through the use of Trichoderma on blight. Per hectare, make a solution of 2.5 kg Trichoderma Viridi one percent soluble powder in 500 liters of water. One month after transplantation, three spraying should be done at an interval of 15 days. Also recommended chemicals include Difeconazole 25 percent EC at the rate of 0.05 percent (50 ml chemical in 100 liters of water), Flusilazole 40 percent EC at 300 ml, Hexaconazole 5 percent EC at one liter, Cresoxim-methyl at 44.3 percent SC. Dissolve any one of half kg quantity, Polyauxin D Zinc Salt 5% SC in 600 grams quantity in 500-750 liters of water. Spray in standing crops.
