Farmers in Punjab, who have been agitating for a month for a month including making a law guaranteeing MSP for crops and other demands, called for stopping the trains for four hours on Sunday. At many places in Punjab-Haryana, farmers sat on the railway tracks from 12 noon to 4 pm. In Punjab, railway tracks were blocked at fifty-two places in 22 districts, while in Haryana, it was blocked at three places including Sirsa. Due to this, more than 100 trains were affected in both the states and passengers had to face a lot of problems. Nine Chandigarh-bound trains were cancelled, while the Shatabdi Express was delayed by three hours.
Farmers also sat on the railway tracks at Shambhu border and Mohali railway station of Punjab-Haryana. Farmers also blocked railway tracks in Amritsar, Jalandhar and Sunam. Many trains were affected on the Delhi-Amritsar route. Women also participated in the Rail Roko movement. Due to the farmers' strike, some trains were diverted from Beas and Ludhiana, including Shan-e-Punjab, Amritsar Express, Ajmer Express. Farmers came down on the track at Jalandhar Cantt station and stopped the train. Farmers also blocked the tracks of Patiala station. Farmers claimed that no train ran between Bathinda-Sriganganagar. Rail roko agitation was organized across Punjab today against the anti-farmer policy of the government.
