Faridabad, 21 August (HS). The country's Excellency President Draupadi Murmu attended the 5th convocation held at JC Bose University in Faridabad on Wednesday as the chief guest. At the same time, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya presided over the convocation. This is the second time that a President of India has visited this institute. Earlier, India's third President Bharat Ratna Dr. Zakir Hussain laid the foundation stone of the then YMCA Institute of Engineering, Faridabad on November 20, 1968. During the convocation, degrees were awarded to 1536 students and researchers who will complete their degrees in the year 2023, which included 998 graduates, 525 postgraduates and 13 PhDs.
Among those who received degrees, there are 874 male students and 662 female students. Apart from this, gold medals were awarded to two meritorious students in the ceremony, out of which a Governor-Chancellor Gold Medal of Rs 75,000 was given to overall B.Tech topper student Ishita Juneja and a Chief Minister Gold Medal of Rs 65,000 was given to overall B.Tech girls topper student Kajal Sharma. On this occasion, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya thanked the President for coming to Haryana on behalf of the 2.5 crore people of Haryana and congratulated the students who received degrees. He said that the daughters of the state are moving ahead in higher education and their participation in research is encouraging as compared to boys, which shows that the daughters of Haryana are making their mark in every field. He called upon the technological graduates to play their role in establishing the country at a high level on the world stage in the field of technology.
Dattatreya said that naming this university after the great scientist J.C. Bose will give it global recognition. He congratulated the university for the convocation and wished a bright future for the students receiving degrees and medals. Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar welcomed the guests in his welcome address and presented the annual report. Referring to the achievements of the university in the past years, the Vice Chancellor said that the university has proved itself on various quality parameters. The ceremony concluded with the national anthem. On this occasion, Haryana Chief Secretary T.V.S.N. Prasad, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapoor, Police Commissioner O.P. Narwal, District Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh, members of various bodies of the university, members of the alumni association and officers of the district administration were also present.
