Zakir Husain Health: The death of famous tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain has been confirmed. His health was delicate. On Sunday (December 15, 2024), his health deteriorated and he was immediately admitted to a hospital in San Francisco, USA. However, first rumors of his death spread and then it came to light that he was undergoing treatment. However, on Monday his family finally confirmed his death.

It is important to mention that Zakir Hussain, born on March 9, 1951 in Mumbai, was awarded India’s second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Zakir Hussain’s name is famous all over the world and he has millions of fans in many countries including India.

The condition was reported to be serious

Earlier, journalist Parvez Alam had shared a picture of Zakir Hussain on X (formerly Twitter). Along with this he wrote, ‘Tabla player, percussionist, musician, former actor and son of great tabla player Allah Raqqa, Ustad Zakir Hussain is not well.’ Although later the news of his death also spread and his condition was said to be stable, but now his family has confirmed his death.

Started learning rhythm at the age of three

Zakir Hussain was born in Mumbai. Zakir was very fond of tabla since childhood and had also learned its tricks from his father. At the age of just three, he started learning to play the rhythm. Zakir’s first concert took place when he was seven years old. After this he started traveling at the age of 11. Subsequently, when Zakir was invited by former President Barack Obama to participate in an all-star global concert at the White House, he was the first Indian to do so.

Zakir Hussain wins the Best Global Music Album award this year

This year, India was crowned at the 66th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles. Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain’s band ‘Shakti’ won the Best Global Music Album award for its music album ‘This Moment’. Ustad Zakir Hussain received awards in three different categories. In 1973 the famous English guitarist John McLaughlin joined Zakir Hussain, T.H.’ Vikku’ started the fusion band ‘Shakthi’ with Vinyar Ram. However, the band was not very active after 1977. In 1997 McLaughlin again formed the band ‘Remember Shakti’ with the same concept. In this T.H. ‘Vikku’, Vinayakram’s son V. Selvagnesh, mandlin player AAP. Srinivas and Shankar Mahadevan were included. In 2020, the artists of this band united again. 46 years after the original band formed, they made the album ‘This Moment’ last June and now it has won a straight Grammy Award.
