Hisar, 10 April (Hissar). Famous Sarangi player Maman Khan, who was awarded the Presidential Award, passed away on Wednesday. He breathed his last in his native village Kharak Poonia in Barwala sub-division of Hisar.
Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya condoled his demise and said that the country has lost a high-class artist in the form of Maman Khan. His demise has caused an irreparable loss to the music world. He told that late Maman Khan had made Sarangi his companion since the age of 9.
He used to accompany his grandfather to play Sarangi in various programs. Sarangi is a very difficult instrument, yet he became proficient in this art and was awarded the Presidential Award. The veteran Sarangi player was also honored with Saraswati Samman by Haryana Government and Kala Ratan by All India Radio. Maman Khan had served in the Public Relations Department.
He earned fame not only in the country but also abroad by playing Sarangi. He brought glory to the country in Libya, Syria, Kuwait, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Tunisia, Dubai, Nepal etc. In a program organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi New Delhi, he was awarded the Haryana Kala Ratna Award by the then Excellency the President and also by the Government of Haryana. Music lovers have expressed grief over the demise of famous Sarangi player Maman Khan.
