Ottawa: The cost of final proceedings in Canada has skyrocketed. In rupee terms that price is Rs 100. 27 to 30 lakhs. Therefore, in some areas of Canada the corpses of the family are left near cemeteries. Therefore the Municipal Corporation employees had to bury the body. The reason behind this is that the price of grave space in cemeteries is skyrocketing in big cities like Toronto. Therefore, the cost of final action which was $6000 in 1998 has reached $8800. Which is around Rs 27-30 lakh. Therefore, the family members of the deceased leave the body near the cemetery.
In Ontario, Canada's most populous province, the number of such 'disinherited' bodies is projected to increase from 242 in 2013 to 1,183 in 2023. As stated by Dirk Heuer, the province's chief coronationist. If we look at the increase in this cost in percentage, it will reach 20 percent in 2022. Whereas in 2023 it will increase to 24 percent.
In Ontario, any body is considered 'unclaimed' after 24 hours, although authorities search for next of kin for up to a week. Meanwhile, the local municipality gives the body a simple burial.
Often the body is deposited in a 'mortuary' by the municipality or even the family. Then after collecting the required amount, the family buries the body of their loved one. This was said by Alan Cole, owner of Toronto-based funeral home 'McKinnon & Bowes'.
There were 66 unclaimed bodies in Quebec in 2013, which increased to 183 in 2023. Even in the US the cost of final action is very expensive. Refrigeration failure at a funeral home in America left 115 bodies decomposed and filled the mortuary with foul smell. From such incidents it can be said that cremation is the best religious practice of India.
