Explosion in car near Pakistan-Afghanistan border, four killed including former MP

A remote-controlled car bomb exploded near the border of neighboring Pakistan's most unstable country Afghanistan, killing a former MP and three others. Giving information about this, the police said that the explosion took place near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and in the tribal area of Damadola region. At the time of the blast, Hidayatullah, a member of the Senate, the upper house of the Pakistani Parliament, was there to campaign for his nephew in the by-election.

The deceased former MP belonged to a big political family

Chief Minister Ali Amin and Chief Secretary of Pakistan's largest troubled region Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province condemned the blast. President Asif Ali Zardari criticized the attack and expressed grief over the death of the former senator and others. Let us tell you that the deceased Hidayatullah was an independent member of the Senate from 2012 to 2018 and then from 2018 to 2024. He was also the chairman of the Standing Committee on Airports in the Upper House of Parliament and a member of the National Anti-Terrorism Team. Hidayatullah's father was also a member. His elder brother has been the former governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

No party has claimed responsibility for the attack

Notably, in January this year, the former MP had tabled a resolution in the Senate Secretariat, stating that the upper house of Parliament had taken note of the rise in attacks targeting candidates. The resolution urged the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Supreme Court to postpone the general elections by three months due to security challenges. However, elections were held in Pakistan the following month on February 8. It is a coincidence that Hidayatullah died while campaigning for his nephew in the by-election. So far, no party in Pakistan has taken responsibility.
