Expected to achieve 20 percent blading in the upcoming session of ethanol supply year: Prof. border patrol

Kanpur, 18 October (Hindustan Reporter). The government is promoting the use of ethanol in fuel and positive results are emerging. The highest ever blading percentage of 15.8 has been achieved during the current ethanol year. The hope is to achieve 20 percent blading in the upcoming session. However, we need to focus on year round operation of ethanol plants using multiple feed stocks as per availability and economics. These things were said by the Director of National Sugar Institute, Prof. Seema Paroha said.

A one-day national seminar on the topic 'Indian Sugar Quality and BIS Standards' was jointly organized by the National Sugar Institute, Kanpur and the Bureau of Indian Standards on Friday at the National Sugar Institute. The symposium was attended by a large number of representatives from various sugar producing states. Director of National Sugar Institute, Prof. Seema Paroha in her address emphasized on standardizing sugar standards and encouraging the sugar industry for production of good quality sugar. He also presented various business models for ethanol production from sugarcane based raw materials viz. C&B heavy molasses, sugarcane juice/sugar/sugar syrup, rice, maize and other feed stocks.

SK Trivedi, Assistant Professor, Sugar Technology, said that there are BIS standards for Indian sugar like raw sugar, demerara sugar, light golden and dark brown sugar etc. and for the sustainability of the sugar industry, it is important to ensure good quality in a cost effective manner. The production of sugar was also discussed. He also discussed the importance of evolving standards and BIS regulations in sugar production and how BIS regulations help maintain stability and trust in the industry among consumers.

Scientist Suniti Tuteja presented on the national standardization process in food and agriculture sector. Disha Zanwar expressed her views on Indian standards related to sugar industry. Dr. Vasudha Keskar shared her views on Chinese standard specifications and their importance. Technical Advisor of VSI Pune, Professor Dr. R.V. Dani discussed in detail about the purposes of direct consumption of raw sugar by changing the nomenclature and specifications as per BIS.
