Jaipur, 21 May (HS). Rajasthan High Court has given relief to more than 3 thousand existing liquor shop license holders of the state and has given them permission to operate their shops till June 30. At the same time, the order of May 8, 2024, under which their shops were to be auctioned, will also not be effective on them. Justice Mahendra Goyal gave this order on the petitions of Anand Chaudhary and others.
The petitioners said that the state government had earlier extended the period of running their shops till June 30. On May 8, the state government included these shops along with other liquor shops in the auction process and auctioned them. The petitioners challenged this in the High Court and said that when the state government has extended the period of their operation till June 30, then their shops cannot be included in the auction process later during this period. Therefore, they should be given permission to operate shops till June 30.
The state government assured the court that the petitioner shop operators would be allowed to operate their shops till June 30 and during this period their shops would not be included in the auction. Taking the reply of the state government on record, the court has given permission to the petitioners to operate the shops till June 30. It is worth noting that earlier the High Court had considered wrong the action of the state government, under which the state government, citing the code of conduct, had extended the period of liquor license by three months and asked the license holders to operate the shops till June 30.
