Avignon City, France: A French court sentenced Dominique Pellicotte, 72, husband of petitioner Giselle Pellicotte, and 50 other accused to a maximum of twenty years in prison for raping his wife by himself and others. For a decade he was kept unconscious by giving drugs. The husband will now have to spend the rest of his life in jail. Judge Roger Arata of the court of Avignon called each of the accused by their first name and found them guilty of rape.

Dominic Pellicote has admitted drugging his wife Giselle of 50 years so he could find strangers online to sexually assault and film her. The case of 72 year old Giselle Pellicote, who has now become a grandmother, created an uproar in the entire country. Gisele, a retired employee of a power company, has become a feminist heroine of the country after this decision.

The five judges announced their decision by secret ballot. Dominic Pellicote admitted that he was mixing tranquilizers in food and drinks and giving them to his wife. After taking which his wife became unconscious for hours, he pretended to have sexual fantasies. In September 2020, after Dominique Pellicot was caught repeatedly filming herself up the skirts of women in a supermarket, police found over twenty thousand photographs and videos in her home. All these materials were created in separate folders and stored on the computer drive. On the basis of this evidence, the police found 72 other people guilty. But police could not identify all of them and many denied being raped despite video evidence.

Despite being a victim of sexual harassment, Giselle Pellicotte showed the courage to face the case in open court by waiving her right to anonymity. Due to this, there was a nationwide discussion on the issue of women’s safety in France.
