Gulf War, expensive shipping and weak rupee: Know why input costs increased

Market experts and companies say that they are completely forced to increase this price. The biggest reason behind this inflation is the war between Iran and the Gulf countries that started in February 2026, due to which there is a shortage of raw materials at the international level. Due to war, shipping and transportation costs have increased manifold and there are huge disruptions in the global supply chain. Apart from this, due to the increasing pressure on the Indian Rupee against the Dollar, import of foreign parts has also become very expensive. If we talk about retail inflation rate (CPI), it jumped to 4.38% in June 2026, which was 3.93% in May. At the same time, the food inflation rate has increased to the figure of 5.32%, which has spoiled the entire mathematics of the market.

The big companies of automobile and electronics sector have made full preparations to pass this burden on the customers. The country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is going to increase the prices of its vehicles by up to Rs 30,000 in August. This is the second time that Maruti has increased the prices of its vehicles since the beginning of the war in February. Apart from Maruti, Honda cars are also going to become expensive from August 1, while big companies like Tata, Mahindra and Mercedes-Benz have already increased their prices. On the other hand, if we talk about the electronics market, since the war the prices of washing machines and refrigerators have increased by more than 10% and the prices of TVs have increased by 15%. Along with this, due to the increase in the cost of memory chips in the international market, it is now considered certain that there will be a sharp rise in the prices of smartphones.
