Kishanganj, 26 August (HS). A strong public awareness program is being run in Thakurganj block of the district regarding the Filaria eradication campaign. With slogans like “Everyone should eat medicine, Filaria has to be driven away”, the health department and supporting organizations are making people aware of serious diseases like Filaria.
The objective of this campaign is that all healthy and age-group people can protect themselves from dreadful diseases like elephantiasis by consuming anti-filariasis medicine. The villagers said that earlier people were unaware of this disease, but now the government is making people aware and giving them medicine. The PHC is monitoring it. In such a situation, people need not worry about the side effects of the medicine. Asha Didi said that the medicine contains albendazole and DEC tablets, after consuming which if someone experiences symptoms like headache, dizziness, vomiting, fever for a while, then do not panic, it gets cured automatically after some time. In the rally, Asha workers and women members also took the pledge to make the village free from filariasis by consuming the medicine for filariasis. On Monday, in the Sadar Hospital premises, Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that in the rural areas of Thakurganj block, Asha workers are going door-to-door and requesting people to take the medicine and warning them about the dangers of filariasis.
Along with the intake of medicine, people are being made aware of keeping the surroundings of the house clean, using mosquito nets and personal hygiene. He said that it is very important to consume the medicine. Filariasis is a dangerous and permanent disability-causing disease, which can be prevented in time. According to District Vector Borne Disease Control Officer Dr Manjar Alam, if after consuming the medicine, someone shows symptoms like headache, dizziness, vomiting or fever, then it is an indication that the parasites of filariasis were already present in the body, and the medicine is doing its job. Therefore, it is very important to consume the medicine, so that the parasites of this disease can be eliminated and serious consequences can be avoided in future. He said that under the campaign, so far 2.67 lakh people have consumed the medicine, while the target is to feed the medicine to 3.06 lakh people.
