Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Maharashtra minister and senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal on Monday demanded 80 to 90 seats for his party in the upcoming assembly elections. However, on this demand, the state's Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that BJP is the largest party in the state and hence it will contest on maximum seats.
On the other hand, Chhagan Bhujbal said in the party meeting that he has been assured of getting 80-90 seats if he joins the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance.
I want to contest on more seats- NCP leader
The NCP leader said, “When we joined the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, we were assured of 80-90 seats to contest. However, in this Lok Sabha election, we got only a few seats. We should tell the BJP that we want more seats. We want to contest on seats so that we can win 50-60 seats.”
In the 2019 assembly elections, BJP won 105 out of 288 seats, while NCP won 54 seats. In this regard, Chhagan Bhujbal said. 'If we get 50 seats to contest due to the number of party MLAs, then how many of them will actually be elected?'
Bhujbal expressed displeasure over teaching of Manusmriti in schools
NCP leader Bhujbale expressed displeasure over teaching of Manusmriti in schools. Manusmriti is an ancient Hindu religious text. In this regard, Bhujbale said, 'We have spent a lot of energy in convincing the Dalits. BJP's claim of winning more than 400 seats does not mean that the party will change the Constitution to remove reservation.'
Reacting to Bhujbal's statement, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister has said that BJP is the biggest party and will contest the maximum number of seats in this election. He also said that seat sharing will be discussed only when a meeting is held between the leaders of the three parties.
