Forbesganj/Araria, 18 September (HS). It has been 34 years since Araria got the status of a district. After becoming a district, many grand government buildings were also built in Araria. Collectorate was built, DRDA Sabha Bhawan was built, SDO office was built, a big residential building for the officials was built. Along with this, a guest house building was also built. But even after so many years, the residence of DM and SP has not been built. Because of this, DM is living in the dak bungalow of the road construction department and SP is living in the dak bungalow of the irrigation department.
Let us tell you that in 1990, Araria and Kishanganj were separated from Purnia district and became a separate district. After the formation of the district, many changes took place. A grand building of the civil court of the district was constructed. Many other big buildings have been constructed here since the formation of the district. But unfortunately, such big officials of the district are still living in the houses of other departments. There was a time when Araria used to be a subdivision of Purnia district. People had to travel a distance of 100 to 150 kilometers to the district headquarters Purnia for any government work. In this, there used to be cases related to the Collectorate and the court. People used to spend a lot of money and time in going to Purnia. For this, the people of Araria started the District Banao Andolan. People of different communities of Araria district participated enthusiastically and kept agitating for the demand of making a district for many years. Then the then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav announced to make Araria a district and in 1990, Araria was given the status of a district.
As soon as the district was formed, Forbesganj was made a subdivision. In this way, Araria district had two subdivisions and nine blocks. People also started getting benefits from this. Now almost all the work started happening in the district itself. The dream of the movement started by the people of Araria came true. But due to lack of buildings, all the departmental offices started functioning at different places. The present collectorate also took a long time to be built and as soon as the work was completed, all the department officials including the DM and SP started sitting in this new building. But since there was no place for the residence of the DM SP, there was a dak bungalow of the road construction department right in front of the collectorate, the DM's residence was made in it. Also, there was a dak bungalow built in the irrigation department colony for the SP, a residence was made for him there immediately.
After the formation of the district, a large number of police force and officers were appointed, but there was no temporary arrangement for their stay. Therefore, immediately a living arrangement was made for the soldiers in the warehouse of the market committee and a police line was built there which is running till date. The then building construction minister Taslimuddin had also laid the foundation stone for the residence of DM and SP on the vacant land of the district agriculture department. People were excited about the construction of beautiful residences for DM and SP on the land of the agriculture department that after the construction of residences here, there will be peace in the surrounding area. But under what circumstances sentiments could not be built there. People have not been able to get information about this till date. Currently, a police line building is being constructed in Hadiyabada Panchayat of Araria block for Araria Police Line.
Local people say that the way the population of the district is increasing, the need for buildings in all departments has also increased. Therefore, if the building in which the DM, SP and DSP live becomes vacant, then they will have their own dak bungalows at those places and it will be easy for the departmental officers to work. Because a district level guest house has also been built. There is also a large complex there. But due to the residence of DM and SP not being vacant, this place is now almost not in the hands of the department. People say that what is the reason that big offices of all departments have been built. Even residences have been built for deputy collectors. But it is unfortunate that the biggest officer of the district does not have his own residence till date.
