The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has estimated an increase of about 50 percent in trade across the country during the Holi festive season this year as compared to last year. Due to this, business is estimated to be more than Rs 50 thousand crore across the country. There is a possibility of business worth Rs 5 thousand crore in Delhi alone.
National General Secretary of CAT and BJP candidate from Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat Praveen Khandelwal said on Friday that this time traders and customers have completely boycotted the goods made in China in the festive sale of Holi. He told that the import of goods related to Holi in the country is about Rs 10 thousand crores, which was absolutely negligible this time. Khandelwal said that this time only herbal color gulal, pichkari, balloons, sandalwood, puja material, apparel and other items made in India are being sold. Apart from this, huge demand is being seen in the markets this time for many other products including sweets, dry fruits, gift items, flowers and fruits, clothes, furnishing fabric, grocery, FMCG products, consumer durables.
Khandelwal said that this year, Holi celebrations are being organized on a large scale across the country including Delhi, due to which there are a number of Holi celebrations in banquet halls, farm houses, hotels, restaurants and public parks. He said that this sector has seen good business days after two years. In Delhi alone, more than 3 thousand small and big Holi celebrations are being organised. He said that a new atmosphere of happiness and enthusiasm is being seen on the faces of the people participating in all the programs.
CAT General Secretary said that as the festival of Holi approaches, all the wholesale and retail markets of Delhi are fully decorated. There is a crowd in the shops in all the markets to buy Gulal and Pichkari along with other Holi items. Gujhiya etc., made especially on Holi, are being sold on a large scale in sweet shops. Khandelwal said that Holika Dahan will be celebrated in Delhi on March 24, while the festival of colors will be celebrated on March 25. Markets are also seen colored in the colors of Holi. Apart from colorful gulal and pichkari, shops in the market are decorated with Gujiya garlands and dry fruits.
Khandelwal said that the number of people in the market for shopping before Holi is increasing every day. He told that due to the tradition of taking garlands of dry fruits along with necklaces and sweets to relatives on Holi, crowds of people are being seen at shops for shopping. Due to this, there is hustle and bustle in most of the markets of the country. Gulaal containing chemicals, herbal colors instead of colours, Abir and Gulaal are in highest demand in the markets.
He said that traders are expecting record breaking sales on Saturday and the next day, Sunday. Khandelwal told that this time different types of Pichkari balloons and other attractive items have come in the market. Pressurized Pichkari is available from Rs 100 to Rs 350. Pichkari in tank form is available for Rs 100 to Rs 400. Apart from this, fancy pipes have also become popular in the market. Children are very fond of Spider-Man, Chhota Bheem etc.
