An important meeting of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is going to be held on October 13, 2025, in which the biggest question is whether the minimum pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS-95) will be increased by Rs 1,000 or not. This is an issue on which lakhs of elderly and retired employees of the country have been pinning their hopes for many years.
At present, people receiving pension under EPS-95 get only Rs 1,000 every month. This amount has not changed since 2014, while inflation has skyrocketed in the last decade. In such a situation, it has become very difficult to run the family with this small pension amount. In view of this, various labor organizations and pensioners have been demanding from the government and EPFO for a long time to increase the minimum pension.
Although there was no direct mention of pension increase in the official agenda of this meeting, but experts believe that it will definitely be discussed informally. According to media reports, there are reports that a proposal to increase the minimum pension from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500 per month is under consideration. If this happens, it will be the first time in 11 years that there will be such a huge increase in the minimum pension. This step will definitely provide a huge financial relief to lakhs of pensioners, especially those who have very low income and are dependent only on this pension.
In this meeting, not only pension, but EPFO will also discuss an initiative named “EPFO 3.0” to further improve its services. The main goal of this project is to make the entire process of EPFO digital and paperless. This includes many improvements like making PF withdrawals through ATM or UPI, making claims settlement faster and in real time, simplifying the process of online death claims and data integration.
However, it is important to know that any proposal to increase the pension will have to be sent to the government for final approval. But if a decision is taken to increase the minimum pension, then it will prove to be a big relief for lakhs of retired employees of the country who have been waiting for this change for a long time.
