Delhi Elections 2025: BJP has announced the first list of 29 candidates in Delhi. In this list, along with former MPs, tickets have also been given to leaders from other parties, but there are some old stalwarts whose names are not in this list. Former MP of Chandni Chowk, Dr. Harsh Vardhan is also included. This question is arising in the minds of people whether the political career of BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate in Delhi, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, is over?
This question is arising because Dr. Harsh Vardhan was once again contesting from his traditional seat Krishna Nagar in this assembly election. But, in his place Dr. BJP has given ticket to Anil Jain. Anil Jain is also a doctor by profession like Harsh Vardhan. Despite being an MP in the last Lok Sabha elections, he was not given ticket from Chandni Chowk and Praveen Khandelwal became MP from there. The tickets of two other former MPs whose tickets were cut in the Lok Sabha elections were compensated by giving them tickets in the Assembly elections. However, Harsh Vardhan was ignored. Now there is no alternative to electoral politics.
MLA’s ticket cancelled, Lovely given preference!
It is noteworthy that Anil Vajpayee’s name has been removed from the list of sitting MLAs by giving ticket to former Sheila government minister Arvind Singh Lovely, who joined BJP from Congress. In the 2020 elections, Anil Vajpayee won on the BJP ticket and made his place among the seven MLAs, saving the BJP’s face from the Aam Aadmi Party. After this Lovely contested the election on Congress ticket and lost the election to Vajpayee. But, before the Lok Sabha elections, Arvind Lovely left Congress and joined BJP and got the ticket from the traditional seat of Gandhinagar.
Meeting of two sitting MLAs is also pending
Last time, BJP had won Laxmi Nagar and Karawal Nagar seats unlike Aam Aadmi Party. Abhay Verma won from Lakshmi Nagar. Apart from this, Mohan Singh Bisht won from Karawal Nagar, who is the face of BJP among Uttarakhandis in the state. However, now BJP released the list of 29 candidates without the names of Verma and Bisht. Actually, BJP has included former Aam Aadmi Party MLA Nitin Tyagi on Abhay Verma’s Laxmi Nagar seat. Also, BB Tyagi, who was once a senior BJP leader, has also left the party and is contesting the elections from Aam Aadmi Party. Now the dilemma is whether Abhay Verma should be made a minister again or Nitin Tyagi should be rewarded for leaving the Aam Aadmi Party?
The matter of Karawal Nagar seat is also a bit complicated. Mohan Singh Bisht from BJP is continuously winning elections from this seat. But Kapil Mishra, who was once very close to Arvind Kejriwal and a minister in the Aam Aadmi Party government, is also staking his claim on this seat. Kapil Mishra’s mother is also from this area and has also been the former mayor of MCD. Now BJP is in a dilemma of balancing on Pahari or Purvanchali ticket.
Many leaders of other parties were not given tickets
BJP has given rewards to the leaders who left Congress and Aam Aadmi Party in its first list, but there are still many leaders who are waiting for the reward. On Gandhinagar seat, BJP canceled the ticket of its own MLA and gave ticket to Congress’s Arvinder Singh Lovely, but former Vishwas Nagar MLA and senior Congress leader Naseeb Singh had to remain empty handed. In Vishwas Nagar, BJP fielded sitting MLA OP Sharma and Naseeb Singh was kept waiting. Similar is the situation of Neeraj Basoya, who came to Kasturba Nagar with the hope of getting a ticket. Along with Lovely, Neeraj also left Congress and joined BJP.
