End of office visits for PNG connection: MyPNG portal launched, new connection at home, billing and complaint resolution will be easy

There is good news for consumers using piped natural gas (PNG) for cooking gas and planning to get a new connection. Keeping in mind the convenience of the consumers, the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network and gas distribution companies have launched a state-of-the-art integrated digital platform ‘MyPNG’ portal and mobile application. After the launch of this new system, customers will no longer have to visit the customer care centers or offices of gas distribution companies to apply for a new gas connection, submit documents, correct bill related mistakes or for any technical complaint.

In the first phase, when a citizen had to get piped cooking gas connection for his home, he had to go to the local dealer or company office and fill the form. After this, physical document verification and pipeline survey took weeks. Many times, in case of billing irregularities or meter failure, one had to stand in queue for hours to lodge a complaint. ‘MyPNG’ portal has made all these complex processes completely paperless and transparent.

On this modern portal, a single-window system has been created for all categories of consumers, domestic, commercial and industrial:

  1. Instant Online Application for New Connection: Now consumers can login to the portal only through their mobile number and Aadhar card. Applying for a new connection can be completed in just 5 minutes by uploading your address, house ownership certificate or rent agreement.

  2. Real-Time Application Tracking: Once the form is submitted, you will get a unique reference number. Through this, the applicant will be able to track on his mobile phone what stage his application is in, when the site survey will be conducted and what is the date of meter installation.

  3. Self-Meter Reading: Often, estimated and incorrect bills are generated due to the meter reader not arriving on time or the house being closed. On the new portal, consumers can directly upload a picture of their meter dial on the specified date of the month, due to which accurate and real consumption bill will be generated immediately.

  4. Instant bill payment and history: Bill payment can be made on the portal through UPI, Net Banking, Debit or Credit Card at zero additional charges. Along with this, bills and payment receipts of the last 12 months can also be downloaded at any time.

  5. 24×7 Grievance Redressal and Gas Leakage Alert: A dedicated ticket system has been created for problems related to gas leakage, low pressure, technical fault in the meter or billing disputes. As soon as an emergency leakage complaint is registered, an automatic alert is sent to the local technical team.

If you want to get a new PNG connection installed in your home, the process on the MyPNG portal is very simple:

  1. Visit the portal and register: First of all go to the official website or mobile app of MyPNG. Sign up via OTP by entering your mobile number and email ID.

  2. Select Area and Society: Select your state, city, pin code and respective gas distribution agency (like IGL, GAIL Gas, Adani Total Gas, MGL etc.). The portal will automatically tell whether the gas pipeline network is active in your society or street or not.

  3. Upload Documents: Upload a clear photograph or PDF of identity proof (Aadhar card or Voter ID) and address proof (electricity bill, registry paper or lease agreement).

  4. Payment of Security Deposit: Once the documents are approved, make the prescribed refundable security deposit and initial installation fee for connection online.

  5. Site Inspection and Gas Commissioning: After completion of payment, the company’s authorized plumber and engineer will come to your home at the slot chosen by you, complete the fitting of the pipeline, do leakage test and commission the meter.

City gas companies have appealed to consumers to be cautious of unauthorized third-party apps or fake websites while using the portal. Use only the official portal link to get a new connection or make bill payment. Also, never resort to local non-trained plumber for fitting of gas pipeline, connecting geyser point or nozzle conversion of gas stove; Book the services of trained technicians of the company only through the portal.

Energy experts believe that PNG is not only 20 to 30 percent more economical than LPG cylinders, but also eliminates the hassle of booking and emptying the cylinder forever due to 24-hour uninterrupted supply. This digital step of ‘MyPNG’ portal will prove to be a milestone in making LPG management completely cashless, transparent and stress-free for crores of families in the country.
