Srinagar: There was firing between army personnel and terrorists in the higher reaches of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning. According to officials, a massive search operation is being conducted to trace the terrorists who fled after the initial attack.
Suspicious activities were reported
Security sources said an alert sentry deployed at a temporary army camp in Batod panchayat detected suspected terrorist activities at around 1:20 am and opened fire. Following this, the terrorists retaliated, leading to intermittent firing between the two sides for about half an hour.

Although there were no casualties in the encounter, officials believe that three terrorists have fled into the nearby forest. The army has started a cordon and search operation to trace these terrorists.
Security forces operation continues
On Friday also, security forces launched a search operation after receiving information about the presence of suspects in Dhanu Parol and Sachhair forests. At present, an alert has been issued in the area, which includes CRPF, police, SOG and army personnel. However, search operations are facing difficulties due to fog in the forest.
Security measures for Republic Day
This week, ADGP Anand Jain along with senior police officers visited the border areas and check posts of the district and directed to strengthen the security arrangements. In view of Republic Day and VVIP movement, security arrangements have been tightened. Strict security arrangements have been made in Jammu and Kashmir before January 26.
