
7 October, Lucknow. IT and ITES exports from UP have crossed Rs 1 lakh crore for the first time. In the financial year 2025-26, IT-ITES exports worth Rs 1,01,970 crore were made from the state. Five years ago in 2020-21 it was Rs 48,004 crore. That means exports more than doubled in five years. In terms of amount, there has been an increase of Rs 53,966 crore during this period.
This growth in IT-ITES exports has been recorded in both Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and Special Economic Zones (SEZs). If we look at the data of five years, the annual average pace of growth of exports from SEZ has been slightly higher than that of STPI. At the same time, in terms of amount, exports from STPI are ahead of SEZ.
Exports from STPI doubled
There were exports worth Rs 25,642 crore from STPI units in the financial year 2020-21. It increased to Rs 52,778 crore in the financial year 2025-26. In this way, exports from STPI increased by Rs 27,136 crore in five years. Its compound annual growth rate during this period was 15.5 percent. Exports from STPI have almost doubled in five years.
SEZ speed is higher
There has also been a sharp increase in IT-ITES exports from Special Economic Zones. There were exports worth Rs 22,362 crore from SEZ in the financial year 2020-21. It increased to Rs 49,192 crore in the financial year 2025-26. That means exports from SEZ increased by Rs 26,830 crore in five years. Its compound annual growth rate during this period was 17.1 percent. The pace of export growth from SEZ was higher as compared to STPI’s rate of 15.5 percent.
If we combine the figures of both, the state’s IT-ITES export in the financial year 2020-21 was Rs 48,004 crore. It reached Rs 1,01,970 crore in the financial year 2025-26. There has been an increase of about 112 percent in five years.
Employment opportunities will increase
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, emphasis is being laid on the expansion of IT and ITES sector in the state. Big companies like IBM, Genpact and Teleperformance have established their offices in Lucknow. With the expansion of the scope of IT sector, new employment opportunities will also increase along with investment in the state. Especially for the youth of technical and IT sector, more work options will be available in their own state. The increase of IT-ITES exports from Rs 48 thousand crore to Rs 1 lakh crore in five years also shows the growing size of this sector.
