Billionaire businessman and CEO of electric car manufacturer Tesla, Elon Musk, has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his victory in the Lok Sabha elections. Musk said that his companies are interested in working in India. In a social media post, Musk wrote, “Congratulations to Narendra Modi on his victory in the world's largest democratic election, my company is interested in working in India.”
Earlier on Friday, Narendra Modi reached Rashtrapati Bhavan and met President Draupadi Murmu and staked claim to form the government. He will take oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time on Sunday. Under the leadership of PM Modi, NDA has won 292 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats.
Let us tell you here that before the elections, Elon Musk had announced his visit to India but then for some reason he postponed this visit. When PM Modi went to America in June last year, Elon Musk met him there. Meanwhile, Musk called himself a fan of Modi and said that Tesla will invest in India. Whereas in July last year, Tesla company had said that it is interested in opening a factory to make EVs worth $24,000 in India.
Elon Musk first showed interest in investing in India in early 2019. However, he predicted a disaster with regard to the high import tax. But the Indian government has made it clear that concessions will be considered if Tesla sets up a manufacturing plant in India. The government has not allowed Tesla to sell China-made cars in India. The government asked Elon Musk's company to set up a manufacturing plant in the country to produce for domestic sales and exports.
