Electrochemotherapy machine will be started soon in KGMU, cancer patients will get relief | News India

Lucknow, 04 September (HS). HIPEC and electrochemotherapy machines have been installed in the Surgical Oncology Department of King George Medical University, which will be operational soon. This will provide relief to cancer patients. These machines have been purchased in the Oncology Department from CSR funds. This information was given by Prof. Vijay Kumar, Head of the Surgical Oncology Department of KGMU.

The 26th Foundation Day of the Department of Surgical Oncology was celebrated on Wednesday, September 4. The program was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Sonia Nityanand by lighting the lamp.

Eminent cancer surgeons and oncologists of India, Prof. Anil D’Cruz, currently the Director of Oncology at Apollo Hospitals, Mumbai, and Prof. Ramakrishnan, Professor of GI Oncology at Cancer Institute, Chennai were invited on this special occasion.

Prof. Anil D'Cruz presented the N.C. Mishra Lecture on “Management of Neck and Oral Cancer”, while Prof. Ramakrishnan delivered a lecture on “Evolution of Multimodality Treatment of Colon Cancer”.

Prof. Anil D'Cruz speaking at the Prof. N.C. Mishra Lecture said that neck dissection has a role to play even in early oral cancer. Oral cancer should be treated with complete surgery. This leads to better survival of the patient. He appreciated the young doctors for focusing on research for better patient care.

Professor Ramakrishnan said that the treatment of rectal cancer should be decided in a tumor board. Multidisciplinary management leads to better patient outcomes.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Sonia Nityanand appreciated the good work of the department. She emphasized the need for multi-institutional collaborative research. The Vice Chancellor assured full cooperation of the University administration to fulfill all the requirements of the department.

Guest of honour Prof. Sanjeev Mishra recalled his old association with the department and requested the university administration to provide better equipment and robots to facilitate better treatment of cancer patients.

Head of the Department Prof. Vijay Kumar, while highlighting the annual achievements of the department, said that last year 33,204 patients were seen in OPD and cancer operations were successfully performed on 1,530 patients. He also said that the department has made significant progress in joint research with renowned cancer institutes of America and England. On this occasion, various heads of departments of KGMU, faculty members, students, employees and alumni of the department participated.
