Shimla, May 11 (HS). The effect of western disturbance is being seen in Himachal Pradesh. Many areas of the state received heavy rain along with thunderstorms on Friday night, which provided relief to the people from the scorching heat. However, the dust storm wreaked havoc in Chamba, Kullu and Mandi districts and power transformers were damaged at many places. The Meteorological Department has said in its forecast that storm and rain activities will continue till May 13. Yellow alert has been issued for storm, rain and lightning on May 12 and 13 in the plains and mid-mountain areas. Due to dry weather in the entire state from 14th to 17th May, the heat wave will increase again.
Meanwhile, during the last 24 hours, weather conditions were seen in most of the districts of the state. The weather in Shimla became cool due to rain late Friday evening. It rained along with thunder in the plains also. There was a storm at many places due to which normal life was affected.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, 483 transformers were shut down in the state due to rain and storm. In Chamba, there is maximum power failure due to failure of 184 transformers. Of these, 181 transformers are defective in Bharmour and three in Chamba city. Due to failure of 164 transformers in Kullu district and 89 transformers in Mandi, people are facing shortage of electricity in the scorching heat. A transformer is closed in tribal district Lahaul-Spiti. Apart from this, six roads and three national highways blocked due to snowfall in the past days have not been restored yet. Two national highways in Lahaul-Spiti and one in Kullu are closed.
It was cloudy in all areas of the state including the capital Shimla on Saturday. There is sunshine at some places in the plains. The maximum temperature in the state is expected to be around 38 degrees Celsius. Due to the rain last night, the minimum temperature has dropped by about two degrees. The minimum mercury in eight cities including Shimla and Manali was recorded below normal. Minimum temperature in Shimla was 12.8 degrees, Sundernagar 18 degrees, Bhuntar 14.6 degrees, Kalpa 8.4 degrees, Dharamshala 16.5 degrees, Una 17.8 degrees, Nahan 21.1 degrees, Keylong 5.1 degrees, Palampur 14.5 degrees, Solan 17.2 degrees. Degree, 6.2 degree in Manali, 20 degree in Kangra, 17.5 in Mandi, 21.3 in Bilaspur, 18.4 in Hamirpur, 16.1 in Chamba, 15.8 in Jubbarhatti, 10 in Kufri, 11.7 in Bharmour, 12.6 in Reckong Peo, 13 in Seobag and 14.1 in Kasauli. It was degrees Celsius.
18 mm rainfall has been recorded in Una, 17-17 in Sainj and Kasaul, 16 in Olinda, 13 in Bharmour, 10 in Jubbarhatti, 9 in Bhuntar, 8 in Nangal Dam and 7 mm in Jogindernagar.
