Electricity department issues new order for bill defaulters, action will be taken after Diwali

Electricity Department Campaign: After Diwali, the electricity department will run a big campaign in Lucknow. The work of installing smart meters will begin. Smart meter postpaid connections of consumers who do not pay bills will be converted to prepaid. After Lucknow, this system will be implemented in entire Uttar Pradesh.

In the first phase, smart meters will be installed in Kanpur Road, Alambagh, Rajajipuram, Chowk, Thakurganj, Residency, Gomtinagar, Chinhat, Mahanagar Division. Under the RDSS (Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme) scheme of the Central Government, smart meters are to be installed in the homes of all consumers. To install these smart meters, smart meters will be installed in three phases. The department will convert the connections of postpaid consumers who do not pay electricity bills to prepaid. XEN Neeraj Garg of Kanpur Road Division said that the smart meter can be changed from postpaid to prepaid.

Recharge will be done through ID

After smart meters are installed in homes, all the information of the concerned consumers will be fed. They can see it themselves whenever they want. The meter will remain completely sealed. Tampering will not be possible. Smart meter can also be recharged. Every consumer will have an online ID, through which the meter can be recharged. If recharge is not done before the balance is exhausted, power will be immediately disconnected. There are many other features of prepaid electricity connection, which consumers will benefit from. While the corporation will get relief from the outstanding electricity bills due to the new features added in the smart meter, the consumers will not have to face the hassle of the bill. There will be no outstanding dues on them. For this there will be no need to change the electricity meter.

Bhavani Singh, MD of Madhyanchal Vidyut Nigam, said that the smart meter has the facility of postpaid to prepaid connection. In case of non-payment of electricity bill, postpaid connection can be converted into prepaid. There will be no need to change the meter for this.
