Electricity demand increased due to paddy harvesting, demand reached 15912 MW

Patiala: The power demand in Punjab crossed an all-time high of 15,912 MW around 12 noon on Tuesday. This is the highest ever power demand in the history of PSPCL. The last peak demand was noted on June 14, 2024 when it was 15775 MW. Paddy cultivation has started in the fields from June 11 in 6 districts of Punjab Muktsar, Faridkot, Bathinda, Mansa, Fazilka and Ferozepur, these districts are mostly dependent on canal water. Apart from these, Moga, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Barnala, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Ropar, Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Pathankot and Gurdaspur districts get water from tubewells for irrigation.

The demand for electricity is estimated to increase by 2500-3000 MW during the paddy season. According to the PSPCL spokesperson, uninterrupted power supply is being provided to consumers during summer and paddy season. It is natural that the demand for electricity will increase during paddy harvesting and PSPCL has already made preparations for it.
