Election Commissioner Arun Goyal resigns, President accepts it

New Delhi, March 09 (HS). Election Commissioner Arun Goyal has suddenly resigned from his post. President Draupadi Murmu accepted his resignation today. This information has been given in the notification of the Union Law and Justice Ministry.

Apart from the Chief Election Commissioner, the Election Commission consists of two other members. After the resignation of Arun Goyal, now only Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is left in the Commission. At the same time, Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey had retired last month itself.

The reason for Arun Goyal's resignation is not yet clear. His tenure was till 2027. Recently the Central Government has passed a law regarding the appointment of Election Commissioner. Under this, the Prime Minister, the leader of the largest party in the Lok Sabha and a Union Minister will appoint the Election Commissioner.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar is touring the country to review the preparations related to the upcoming general elections. Arun Goyal also stayed with him during this period. Arun Goyal's appointment was also in controversy for some days.
