Ranchi, March 2 (HS). Preparations for elections on two Rajya Sabha seats from the state are being completed. For this, the Election Commission will issue a notification on March 4. The elections will be held on March 21. After this the nomination process will start, which will continue till March 11. Scrutiny will take place on March 12 and names can be withdrawn till March 14. The results will be declared late in the evening on polling day, March 21. Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar, who became the observer for this election, said that as soon as the notification is issued, the process of nomination will start before the Assembly Secretary.
The two Rajya Sabha seats for which elections are to be held are held by Congress and BJP. The tenure of Congress's Dheeraj Prasad Sahu and BJP's Sameer Oraon is ending on May 3 this year. The names of the candidates have not been announced yet. NDA is likely to announce its candidate by Tuesday, while on behalf of UPA, state Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir has sent a report to the Congress President regarding the Rajya Sabha elections.
The name of the candidate will be announced soon after the meeting between Congress and JMM. There is a possibility that NDA may field more than two or three candidates in the elections. The reason behind this is to spoil the mathematics of votes. However, amid political turmoil, the trumpet of Rajya Sabha elections will be sounded as soon as the notification is issued on Monday, for which the Election Commission is completing its preparations.
