Ranchi, 17 February (HS). The Election Commission, which is busy finalizing the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections, has decided to conduct a social audit of the polling stations. Under this, polling stations located in all the 24 districts of the state will be inspected. The responsibility of assessing the ground reality of the report sent from the district level on the facilities being provided at the polling stations has been given to a third party.
The responsibility of social audit to be conducted on the instructions of the Election Commission has been given to the Social Audit Unit of the Rural Development Department, which will visit 600 polling stations in all 24 districts of the state and get acquainted with the ground reality there. The social audit team will not only visit the polling stations but will also examine the reports received from the district level. The inspection team will also talk to local BLOs and voters at the polling booth and submit a report on about 14 points to the Election Commission.
During the social audit, the team will examine the actual location of the polling stations, whether there is a polling station within two kilometers of the village or not, basic facilities like ramp, drinking water, electricity supply, toilet, table-chair, crèche, permanent shed, light and fan etc. Assessment will be done.
In this regard, Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar said that after the social audit report comes, it will be seen whether arrangements have been made at the polling centers as per the report received from the districts or not. If deficiencies are found in the system, facilities will be made available on time and appropriate action will be taken. Instructions have been given to complete the social audit as soon as possible. There is a provision to conduct such social audit at two percent of the total polling stations. In this way, about 600 polling stations will be inspected in all the districts of the state.
