ED raids premises of RJD MLA and others in Bihar

Patna: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday raided the premises of an MLA from Bihar’s main opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and others as part of a money laundering probe linked to alleged embezzlement in a co-operative bank.

Official sources said that raids were conducted at about 18 locations in Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

Sources said that the places raided also included premises belonging to RJD MLA and former Bihar Chief Minister Alok Kumar Mehta. Mehta is the promoter of Bihar-based Vaishali Shahri Vikas (VSV) Co-operative Bank.

He said that the state police had registered an FIR against the bank and its officials in a case of embezzlement and money laundering of about Rs 85 crore.

Mehta is an MLA from Ujiarpur seat in Bihar and a senior leader of Lalu Prasad-led RJD. Earlier also he was the Revenue and Land Reforms Minister in the state.

Neither his party nor his side have expressed any reaction in this matter.
