The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has once again taken very aggressive action on Friday regarding serious cases of money laundering and land grabbing in West Bengal. The Central Investigation Agency conducted simultaneous raids at several locations of former Deputy Commissioner (DCP) of Kolkata Police Shantanu Sinha Biswas and notorious Biswajit Poddar known as ‘Sona Pappu’. This raid of ED on the luxurious bungalow of former DCP Shantanu Sinha located in Kandi, Murshidabad ended late on Friday night at around 11:00 pm, i.e. after 14 hours of intensive search.

As soon as the raid in Murshidabad was over, ED officials sealed the entire luxurious house for security reasons. During the investigation, the officials also summoned the masons who were looking after the renovation and repair work of this grand property for the last few years. Moreover, Andulia Panchayat head Mamoni Rajbanshi was kept at the spot till late night to sign the official list of seized documents (seizure list).
The ED team has recovered many suspicious documents related to benami properties and lands from this VIP hideout. Two bank officials from Baharampur were specially called to the spot to investigate the financial manipulation and secret accounts in depth. Along with this, on-spot assessment of all these black properties of the former DCP was also done with the help of Land Revenue Department and Registry Office staff.

Ever since the arrest of former Kolkata Police DCP Shantanu Sinha Biswas, this luxurious house in Murshidabad had become a subject of curiosity and discussion in the entire West Bengal. This time, ED has significantly increased the scope of investigation to completely destroy this syndicate. Other suspects whose homes were raided on Friday include:

Continuous arrests since April till now: Who is ‘Sona Pappu’ whom ED is after?
This latest and major action has come just after the long interrogation and arrest of Biswajit Poddar alias ‘Sona Pappu’ by ED on May 18. Earlier, last week itself, former DCP Shantanu Sinha was detained, while businessman Joy S., the main link in this entire land scam, was arrested. Kamdar was caught by the central agency in the month of April itself.
The ED has described Poddar before the court as a ‘habitual criminal’ and a vicious syndicate leader, who is allegedly directly involved in several cases of forcible land grabbing and patronage to land mafias across West Bengal.

Now ED is trying to connect the links that under the guise of khaki, the former DCP and this vicious criminal were together carrying out money laundering and land scam worth thousands of crores of rupees in Bengal.
