Ahmedabad: Every Gujarati's morning starts with tea. It is common to enjoy toast with tea in India. Every morning most people like to eat toasted biscuits with tea, they think it is a healthy breakfast. But is toast really beneficial for our health? According to experts, toast biscuits contain many ingredients which are harmful for your health.
Dietitian Richa Gangani posted a video on Instagram saying that toast is basically a mixture of flour, sugar and cheap oil (like palm oil). They contain high amounts of trans fat and sugar, which are dangerous for heart health and weight. Apart from this, gluten and many types of food additives are added to it, which harm health.
Toast biscuits found in stores are often made from stale bread, which contains unhealthy ingredients. The oil used in making these toast biscuits is mostly cheap and low quality like palm oil, which causes heart diseases.
Why is toast unhealthy?
According to Richa Gangani, trans fat and additives present in toast can have a negative effect on the body's metabolism. Consuming trans fats can increase cholesterol levels, which increases the risk of heart disease. Additionally, excessive consumption of sugar and flour can lead to weight gain and imbalance in blood sugar levels. Once baked, the toast is re-baked to crisp it up, which reduces their nutritional value and makes them a high-calorie snack.
What could be a better option than this?
Instead of toast with tea, you can choose a healthy option. You can consume roasted makhana, roasted gram or almonds, which are not only nutritious but also helpful in controlling weight. These snacks provide your body with essential nutrients and energy, which you do not get from toast.
