Does Panipuri cause cancer?
The Food Safety and Standards Department of the Karnataka government has completely banned the use of artificial colours added to cotton candy and gobi manchurian across the state, as the chemicals present in these artificial colours have a bad effect on our health. Now, a survey conducted by the Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSA) in Karnataka has revealed cancer-causing chemicals in about 22% of Panipuri samples.
FSSAI collected around 250 Panipuri samples from roadside vendors to good hotels, of which 41 samples were found to contain harmful artificial colours and chemicals like Brilliant Blue FCF, Sunset Yellow and Tartrazine. These chemicals can not only cause stomach problems but also serious health issues like cancer, heart disease, skin allergies and autoimmune disorders.
