Ingredients required to make Tamarind Chutney

  • Tamarind – 100 grams
  • Oil- 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tablespoon
  • Fennel – 1 tablespoon
  • Grated ginger – 1 tablespoon
  • Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Jaggery – 200 grams
  • Roasted cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Black salt – 1/2 tsp
  • Some cashews and almonds

How to Make Tamarind Chutney

  • To make chutney, first heat a cup of water in a vessel and then add 100 grams of tamarind in the water and cover it for 25 to 30 minutes. So that the tamarind pulp swells well in the water.
  • When the tamarind swells in the water, remove the seeds and separate the pulp.
  • – Now place the pan on the gas and add 2 tablespoons of oil and heat it well.
  • – When the oil is hot, add one teaspoon of cumin seeds and one teaspoon of fennel seeds and fry them well.
  • – After this, add one teaspoon of grated ginger in it and fry it till it becomes light golden, so that the ginger does not remain raw and then add half a teaspoon of red chili powder and mix it.
  • – Now add tamarind pulp to it, mix it well and cook on medium flame till it comes to a boil.
  • When the tamarind is cooked and starts boiling, add 200 grams of jaggery to it and keep stirring continuously until it melts.
  • After this, add one teaspoon of cumin powder and half teaspoon of black salt and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the chutney thickens a little.
  • – After the chutney is cooked well, now turn off the gas and leave it to cool and add some chopped cashews and mix it.
  • Tamarind chutney is ready, now serve it with samosa, kachori, tikki.
  • This tamarind chutney will not spoil quickly, you can make it once and store it in the freezer for 10 to 15 days.
