Shimla, 04 November (HS). Earthquake tremors have occurred once in Himachal Pradesh. Earthquake tremors were felt in tribal district Kinnaur at 1.29 am last night. According to Meteorological Center Shimla, the intensity of the earthquake was 3.1 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was at 31.38 degrees north latitude and 78.17 degrees east longitude in Kinnaur and its depth was recorded at 10 kilometers below the ground surface.
An official of the State Disaster Management Authority said on Monday that due to the light intensity of the earthquake, there was no loss of life or property in Kinnaur district.
Frequent occurrence of earthquakes in Himachal Pradesh is putting people in panic. Earthquake tremors have been occurring here for the last several years. On October 15, an earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale occurred in Mandi district. Earlier on October 12, Shimla was hit by an earthquake measuring 3 on the Richter scale. Then the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded in Chidgaon of Rohru sub-division of Shimla district. However, there was no loss of any kind during this period.
It is noteworthy that Himachal Pradesh is included in the most sensitive zone four and five from earthquake point of view. Mild earthquake tremors have been felt here for many years. In 1905, more than 10 thousand people were killed in the devastating earthquake that hit Kangra and Chamba districts.
