There was a devastating earthquake in October
Afghanistan is an earthquake prone area. On October 7 last year, an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude occurred in Herat province of Afghanistan, in which many villages were destroyed. It is considered the most devastating earthquake to hit Afghanistan in recent times, killing 2,000 people and leaving thousands injured and homeless. Many months later, people are still struggling to rebuild.
According to reports, Afghanistan needs more than US$400 million to recover from last October's earthquake. The United Nations, in collaboration with the World Bank, the European Union and the Asian Development Bank, has released a new report estimating that US$402.9 million is urgently needed to support critical reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan's Herat province.
