Kolkata, September 20 (HS). DYFI (Democratic Youth Federation of India) leader Kalatan Dasgupta was released on bail on Friday on the orders of the Calcutta High Court. He was arrested in connection with a phone call related to planning of violence.
After his release, Dasgupta said he would continue his fight for justice. On Thursday, the high court ordered his release on a bond of Rs 500 and one surety of the same amount.
Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj in his order directed the police not to take any coercive action against Dasgupta in this case or any other case registered against him without the permission of the court.
Dasgupta's lawyers claimed in court that she had been falsely implicated in the case because she had actively participated in a peaceful protest accusing state authorities of failing to ensure workplace safety for women.
Dasgupta, a DYFI leader and editor of its Bengali mouthpiece 'Juvo Shakti', was released after the bail bond and surety process was completed in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bidhannagar.
“The filing of such false cases shows that we are on the right track,” Dasgupta said amid supporters and DYFI leaders after his release.
